Are These 4 Habits Holding You Back?

Every day, hundreds, if not thousands, of people around the globe embark on a new journey deep into the world of internet marketing. Unfortunately, the attrition rate is exceptionally high. The majority of those that dream of leading a financially free life from the comfort of home will undoubtedly fail.

These people don’t necessarily fail because of lack of information. After all, there are countless sources of outstanding information that can help both newcomers and experts alike (this blog included). They don’t fail because internet marketing is exceptionally difficult. They don’t fail because there aren’t enough people making purchases online. Quite the contrary, Emarketer reports that over $118 billion will be made on content marketing, social media, and video marketing in 2013.

There are a few basic reasons why most people are not successful in IM. It is because of only a few, yet easily fixable, factors that hold them back.  We’re going to take a look at a few of these factors and what you can do to overcome these pesky habits.

Paralysis by Analysis

Far too often newbies hear about the wonders of Internet marketing and the potential fortunes that can be made if done right. These people begin to do their due diligence (as they should), but NEVER move forward. The fear of failure has some spending all of their time researching everything from marketing methods to SEO, but never actually putting these practices into use. There is so much helpful information out there that it is common to feel overwhelmed. It’s natural to want to become in expert in a specific field, but experience is by far the best teacher.  Failure may occur, but learning from that failure and continuing forward is what will ensure success.

“Procrastination is opportunity’s assassin.” – Victor Kiam

This can go hand in hand with paralysis by analysis. There will never be the “perfect” time to start an online business. There will always be outside factors pulling at you in different directions; family, a job, friends, bills, etc. The only way to achieve your dream of owning a successful business is to ACT NOW. There is no more opportune time than today.

Shiny Object Syndrome

Undoubtedly, there are countless marketing “gurus” peddling hundreds of courses that promise to make you untold riches within a short amount of time. I’m here to tell you that some are well worth it, but the majority are complete crap. Forget about the cool new methods and focus on the tried and true methods that have been proven time and time again. Don’t get sucked into every offer that comes your way. It is only setting you back from moving forward and focusing on building your business.

A General Lack of Understanding of What It Takes

There is no such thing as a set it and forget it business model when it comes to internet marketing. Building a business and a brand takes time.  You may fall on your face numerous times, but if you continue forward, and keep working hard, you WILL be successful. It won’t happen overnight. It may not even happen in a matter of months. Though internet marketing is not incredibly difficult, and can be extremely rewarding, it is also very time consuming as well. Those that have reached the pinnacle of their industry will not hesitate to say that they’ve spent countless nights working late in order to perfect their craft.

If there is only one thing that you take away from this article it is that you need to act now. Success will not come knocking at your door. You have to go out and get it. The only way for this to happen is if you are continuously working to improve your business. Do not remain stagnant and allow outside factors to bog you down. This is your business. If you treat like one, it will always pay off in the end.
