The problem most internet marketers face when they are just starting out, and literally just starting to (make an attempt to) network with their colleagues in the industry, is credibility. We all lack credibility in the beginning, and some names get more attention in our inbox than others.
There’s a pecking order, just like any other industry, and thats just a fact. When a top affiliate marketing guru looks in his inbox, there’s probably 100 emails to action that day, before they start on customer service. The only way to build credence with these busy people, is to establish a common ground, and break the ice to get a rapport going.
So, you might be asking yourselves, how do I break the ice when they won’t even open an email from me? Well, that’s quite simple, you just have to really think about the kind of emails that look urgent or important, even though they might be from a person they never met before. I am going to give you one very sweet tip right here (that I learned from a fellow IMer not long ago, who used it to break into at least twenty top Internet marketers’ inboxes – in a manner of speaking!), so please do take action on this, if you really want to get ahead fast.
Okay, imagine you are an Internet marketer, who has so much to do with their online products, the inbox is constantly blinking away with a new message. What kind of emails do you think stand out? Facebook messages from new or current friends? Possibly not. What about JV announcements, or marketing mails? Nope. They are way too busy. They may skim read these later in the evening. No, think harder, and think about the golden rules of marketing. You need to create an emotion with your subject line, right? Even though these guys are Internet marketing “gurus”, they still have feelings. Well – some of them do.
So, here is the subject line: “Hey, [NAME] your course has been ripped off” — WHAT!?
So, they open the email. And you have very kindly warned them that their ebook/guide has been shared on such-and-such sharing site, or forum. What do they do? The same as I have done in the past, I write an email back saying thanks a lot, I’ll get my DMCA admin on it. And the conversation is quite literally started right there.
You will find that just by doing something helpful, and also by creating an emotion – you will get much further ahead. That, after all, is what networking is.
