When you first start talking to somebody who you’d like to date, you are full of interesting things to say, and if you are lucky enough to start dating, the whole newness thing is awesome. Blogging is very much like that. The newness is great. You have a hundred ideas every week for articles and posts, and you run competitions, and you start thinking of new ways to get traffic in. You then start to get a little weary of the blog, because traffic has slumped, or you just can’t think of anything to write. Just as when you have a bad date, when you are not really paying attention to the other person, and they are actually getting on your nerves.
Blogging can be fun, and interesting on a daily basis. It gives you the opportunity to actually meet people from miles away, and brings the whole world to your desk. It can be like that. It can also be hard work brainstorming ideas, and split testing page layouts or designs. It can be hard work finding people to interview, or products to test. So what is the answer?
As with most things, the answer is patience, and also motivation. You can motivate yourself daily by looking to your subscribers, and loyal visitors for clues about how to proceed. Just one comment on a post could actually give you the inspiration for ten more posts. Maybe it would be a good idea to look at your to do list, and check up on all the things you haven’t done. Talk about this on your blog, and maybe it will help you get through the day. After all, when you’re answering to someone (even if it is the great vastness of the internet) you tend to do a better job!
