Tips on How to Create Relevant Content

In a world where content is king, people tend to put lot of random information on their webpages in an attempt to boost their page rank with different search engines. Unfortunately this won’t do any good if the content isn’t relevant to their website. In order for SEO to work properly content must be fresh and consistent with the overall theme of your webpage or blog.

Another reason to have relevant material on your website is your visitors. If you content is consistent throughout and every post has something to do with the theme of your page, then more people will view it as a viable source of information for that particular topic. This in turn has the capability of attracting new visitors and retaining current ones.

Ease of Use

When a website is difficult to use or read, people simply exit and find another website. For this reason, it doesn’t matter how high your search engine rankings are. If the piece is unreadable, it makes it completely irrelevant. In addition, if it takes a user more than 3 minutes to find what they are searching for, they will most likely find another website.

We live in a fast paced world where people need information and they need it quickly. They don’t have time to search or read for hours on end to find the answers they seek. Your website should reflect this. Keep the information on your page concise so that it is easy to read.

It should also be laid out in a manner that it is easy to find. In the event that your page has a wealth of information, incorporate a website search bar to help users find what they are seeking.

Keyword Density

This might not seem like it would be important to your website but it is actually one of the most important things need to take into account when creating subject matter for your site.

The keyword density of your website is going to greatly impact where it appears in search engine rankings. Not enough keywords can land you on the second or even third page of the results. While too many keywords can get you labeled as a search engine spammer and blacklisted.

The answer to this is to make sure you don’t have a high amount of keywords. There is no optimal percentage of keywords in general. But the keyword or phrase shouldn’t appear more than 2-4 times in an article (depending on the length and subject matter).

Pictures and Their Names

One area that people often overlook is whether or not the photos on their pages are pertinent to the information.

Photos should be titled according to what type of information is on your page. If your website includes photos with its blog posts or articles, these images should also be named accordingly. Many images are simply named with numbers, this won’t help add to the relevancy of the content on your page.

If the pages content covers writing, then you will want to give your photos names that reflect this. However, like the text content on your page, you want to make sure you don’t overdo it with keywords. A thesaurus can often come in handy in situations such as this.

It is not enough to simply fill your page with information, then leave it alone. How often you update your website is somewhat dependent on your readers. As a general rule though, content should be updated at least twice a week. The more you update the content on your website, offering your readers something new and interesting to look at, the more often they will visit.

Doing so can greatly increase your search engine rankings as well. A couple of years ago, Google began rewarding websites for having new content with higher rankings. This new system impacts 35% of rankings.

Industry Related Content

It is also a great idea to create posts and articles on industry-wide events. This tells your readers that you are a part of the community and pay attention to what is going on. That isn’t to say you should commit and entire page to one event, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a page dedicated to current happenings such as awards ceremonies or conferences.

Incorporate Social Media

Social media has become an extremely important part of most people’s day to day lives and routines. This being said, you should incorporate share and like buttons on your pages. To some extent, it will help you rank higher and get your website out there.

You should have a share button for the entire website as well as for individual articles. If you have been on Facebook lately, you know how quickly posts can spread across a social media network. It only takes a matter of minutes for a post to be shared thousands of times over.

It isn’t just a matter of visitors sharing your posts though. Your company or website should also have accounts with these networks. Posting on a regular basis and talking with others about what is going on in your industry and your website will help in attracting visitors exponentially.

A lot of companies feel that these networks won’t help or that they might unintentionally bring undue criticism to their company and website. This couldn’t be further from the truth. You might have some critics, but all websites and companies do, it’s just the nature of the internet. As long as your content is truthful and has substance this shouldn’t be a topic of concern.

Creating quality content for your website may seem like a big job, and to some extent it is. However, it doesn’t have to be a difficult task. There are several factors that go into creating a high ranking website with quality, relevant content.

Posts don’t necessarily have to be long, and your site doesn’t have to be the best looking one out there. It just has to flow smoothly, be easy to read, and have up to date information.
