For example, when you’re ranking for a keyword phrase like “how to make soup,” you need to actually include that entire phrase in the title, just the way it’s written. For some keyword phrases, it’s hard to work the words into the title and still have it sound like something a real person would say in everyday conversation. That’s why you must choose your keyword phrases wisely.

Another tip you need to keep in mind when titling your article is that you must use the keyword phrase as the beginning of the title whenever possible. It’s common to list the keyword phrase, then follow it with a colon and an explanation of the article. Using our example above, you could create the following title:

“How to Make Soup: Five Easy Ways to Cook Soup in Ten Minutes or Less”

This title includes our keyword phrase and gives the reader a clear idea of what they will read if they click on the search result. Make sure that you actually deliver in the article what you promised in the title, or ranking for a keyword does you no good.

Ranking for a Keyword: The Body of the Article

Ranking for a keyword becomes a little easier when you get to the body of the article. All you have to do is include the keyword phrase at a particular frequency, depending on the desired keyword density of your website or of the article directory to which you plan to submit your article.

Using Heading 2 and Heading 3 subtitles that include your keyword phrase also help you when ranking for a keyword. They help break up the article into readable segments and also reassure the search engines that your article truly is written around your topic.

Just make sure you don’t overload your article with your key phrase, or you’ll suffer a penalty in the search engines. Also, make sure that you use proper grammar wherever you place the phrase, or readers will feel that you are only playing up to the search engines and find a different site.
