How to Write an eBook to Sell

Do you want to take the risk of a less than thorough writer copying and pasting scraped content? And do you feel like going through each page with a fine tooth comb weeding out misinformation or poorly researched content?

Probably not. That’s why you should know how to write an eBook on your own. Even though it can be more time-consuming, you can save a lot of money and make sure that it turns out the way you want by writing it yourself.

It helps if you have a good outline before you start writing. One of the most common questions regarding eBook creation is, how long should it be? The answer: Make it as long as it needs to be. This almost sounds like a platitude that doesn’t really help you solve how long to make the book, but it  makes a point.

Basically, you need to include all the information you need in order to fulfill the title and purpose of the eBook. That being said, you can always alter the title the accommodate the breadth of the eBook. For instance, if the title was too broad and you only wanted to write 30 pages’ worth of content, you can re-title the eBook to encompass a smaller subject.

How to Write an eBook Table of Contents

Here’s the thing about eBooks: they’re meant to be conversational. This makes it easier for you, because all you have to do is pretend you’re talking to your best friend while you write. Don’t use stiff sentence structures and flowery language. Just pretend that your next door neighbor asked you about the topic you wrote about in the eBook, and type out your response in a colloquial manner.

So when it comes to the table of contents, try to structure your thoughts in such a way that it makes sense to go from Step A to Step Z. You can always restructure the table of contents if you find they were out-of-order or you missed a step.

Don’t be afraid to write out a rough draft, too. You can make endless new documents, copy and paste sections and reformat to your liking later on. Just say what you want to say and put it all on a document first, then worry about polishing it up later.

But I’m not an author! You might protest. Here’s a news flash: most internet marketers who write their own eBooks are not professional authors. They don’t get those treasured sparks of inspiration that you hear novelists getting every now and then. They generally have to pick a topic, research it, write what they know off the top of their heads and edit it to near perfection.
