Creating an Attractive Opt-In Page is as Simple as 1-2-3

One of the most important features of your website is the opt-in page. The value that it gives your business cannot be overemphasized or over-rated. Providing an attractive opt-in offer gives immediate value to site visitors and this value is one of the most important factors that determine the size of your email list and thus the success of your business. As you look to create your own opt-in page for your site, there are many things to keep in mind. However, at the core, the process of creating an attractive and converting opt-in form or page is fairly simple. Follow the steps below and your email list will be growing in no time.

#1 – Make it Worthwhile

People aren’t looking to just give their email address out for free. Therefore, the most important factor that determines whether or not site visitors will give them your email address is the value that you offer them. Rather than providing some vague written copy asking visitors to sign up for updates, use the space to explicitly describe what they will gain from signing up. Your language should be convincing and really sale your vision. At the same time, the opt-in form doesn’t have to be incredibly long, one concise, well-worded sentence or a short paragraph can do the trick. Focus on results and benefits to the potential new subscriber when writing the content for this section of your site.

Offer a good freebie. There are a lot of websites that are fighting for people’s attention. You should make sure that you create a freebie that users actually want, whether it be a short email course, an e-book or some other free resource. It should also be specific to your audience and your niche. The content of the freebie should certainly resonate with the people you want to reach with your site. It should be somehow related to other content that appears on your site or products that you offer for sale. Offering a totally unrelated opt-in freebie does nothing for you or your customers in the long-run.

Make sure that you invest the time to really plan and brainstorm your offer. Continue to ask yourself how you can add value to the offer on your site. Even after you have had your opt-in form on your website for awhile, there is nothing that says you can’t go in and edit it to make your offer more attractive. You may develop a new product or guide that you would like to give away as part of your opt-in offer, or you may come up with additional promotions. Whatever it is, you should always be considering how you can improve the value you are offering to potential subscribers. This will lead to a much higher conversion rate in the long run and therefore, more sales and profits in your pocket!

#2 – Use A Template or use a Designer

It may seem a bit overwhelming to design an opt-in form and set it up on your website, especially if you are not the most tech-savvy or familiar with computer programming skills. However, we can’t stress enough the importance of this form. The opt-in form captures email subscribers for you and creates a list of emails to which can then send email newsletters and promotions. While it may seem like a big task, today we have the benefit of many companies offering pre-designed templates that you can use to create your attractive and customized web-form. You can choose from the pre-existing templates on your email service provider’s website and then copy and paste the code to embed it into your site.

Of course, if you aren’t comfortable with doing this, it’s completely reasonable to hire someone to do it for you. The main thing is to end up with form that fits the style of your website. Branding is incredibly important for your site. It adds credibility to your page and helps visitors to take the offer more seriously and not feel like they are being scammed. While your opt-in form must certainly be designed to match your site style and branding, it should also stand out. You don’t want visitors to miss it. It should be on your homepage in a prominent location where they will see it in the first few moments they are on your site.

#3 – Decide What Fields to Collect

One of the most important decisions that you have to make is how much information you will decide to collect from your new opt-in form. It is obvious that you will need to collect an email address, however, you can also customize the form to include virtually any type of data that you want about your new subscribers.

You will want to think critically about what is important to your business and what can be left off. It may be useful to know your user’s first name, or some other piece of information. It is important to keep in mind that each field that you add may decrease the number of people that subscribe to your list. The less fields that you include on your newly-created form will generally lead to a higher conversion rate. Therefore, you should consider keeping the information that you collect to a bare minimum, perhaps only an email address.

If you follow these steps and create an irresistible, well-designed and concise opt-in page, it is sure that your email list will continue to grow. The freebie that you offer should be something that people actually want, and your opt-in page should be written in such a way that they are convinced of this. Additionally, you can choose to use a template or designer to create your form, but you should ensure that it is attractive and fits your brand. Lastly, choosing the fields that you include in your form greatly affects the likelihood that visitors will sign-up so it should be considered carefully. Considering all of these things will help you to create an attractive opt-in page without a great deal of effort.
